The brake parachute is used to reduce the landing run of the aircraft. The parachute is stowed directly into a metal container with the parachute connecting link protruding at the aircraft end. The main parachute is held in position in the removable container by a pair of locking straps, and the auxiliary parachute is stowed in a small pack attached to one of the straps. The brake parachute system is designed to operate normally at streaming up to 150 Knots but can be operated at speeds up to 180 Knots in an emergency. The parachute life is 40 streams.
